Each week during the school year, “Chef Chalus” (a.k.a. school principal, Eric Chalus) pays a surprise visit to a classroom to introduce students to healthy foods. The classrooms and foods vary from week to week.
The students get to sample the chosen fruit or vegetable and learn a little bit about it and its benefits.
Then, they circle whether they liked it or not. The foods that get the most votes win. The forms are sent home with the students, so their parents know which healthy foods their children enjoy.
In a recent visit to Mrs. Erin Sweeney’s first grade classroom, students sampled blueberries, which was an overwhelming hit.
