Day of Coding

Bethel Park elementary students took their coding skills to the next level by participating in a special computer science session after completing Unit 2 of the Exploring Programming course through Carnegie Mellon University’s Computer Science Academy with Python.

The program, designed to introduce students to foundational programming concepts, is part of a multi-level curriculum that engages learners with hands-on activities and real-world problem-solving challenges. Lucas Zeiler, Joe Kretchun, Graham Rumble, Norah Ford, Muhammad Ali Muminjonov, and Enzo Ciaramella were among the elementary students who participated. Grace Perdziola, Declan Finnegan, Annabelle Gaston, Jack Janosik, and Keira Mehalko were the high school mentors supporting the event.

Mrs. Lisa Yost, an elementary gifted support teacher, and Mrs. Christine Firek, a gifted coordinator at Bethel Park High School, led the program. Computer Tech Ms. Aimee Lannis supported the team, recommended the CS Academy program, and worked closely with students throughout their progress.

The initiative reflects Bethel Park’s commitment to STEM education and providing advanced learning opportunities for gifted students across all grade levels.
